Why Statistical Significance Matters

Statistical significance tells you the probability that your results are real, not just noise. The standard threshold is 95% confidence, meaning there's only a 5% chance the difference is random.

Reading the Results
The key number is the confidence level. If it's above 95%, you can be reasonably sure the difference is real. Below 90%? You probably need more data. Between 90-95% is a gray zone — significant for some use cases, not others.
The calculator also shows the relative lift (percentage improvement) and absolute difference. A 50% relative lift sounds amazing, but if it's going from 0.2% to 0.3%, the absolute impact might not justify the change.
Common A/B Testing Mistakes
A few things I've learned the hard way: don't check results too early — that's called "peeking" and it inflates false positives. Don't stop the test the moment it hits significance — let it run for at least a full business cycle. And don't test too many variations at once unless you adjust for multiple comparisons.
Also, sample size matters more than test duration. Running a test for two weeks on low-traffic pages might still not give you enough data.
