How to Create a WiFi QR Code
Let guests connect to your WiFi instantly by scanning a QR code. Our free WiFi QR Code Generator creates a scannable code with your network credentials.
Steps
Enter your WiFi network name (SSID)
Type the exact name of your WiFi network as it appears in the network list on devices. The SSID is case-sensitive — WiFi-Office and wifi-office are different networks.
Enter your WiFi password
Type your WiFi password. The password is encoded in the QR code's data payload. Keep in mind that anyone who scans this QR code will gain access to your network — treat the printed QR code with the same care as your written password.
Select security type
Choose your network's security type: WPA/WPA2 (most modern home and office networks), WPA3 (newer networks), WEP (legacy — insecure, avoid if possible), or None (open network). Select the correct type so the QR code includes the right connection parameters.
Toggle hidden network (if applicable)
If your network is hidden (SSID is not broadcast), enable the 'Hidden Network' option. This tells the scanning device to connect to a non-broadcasting network using the provided credentials.
Generate, download, and display
Generate the QR code and download it as a PNG. Print it and frame it near your router or at your workspace entrance. Include a label like 'Scan to connect to Guest WiFi' to make its purpose clear. Never display the raw password alongside the QR code — the QR code is the more secure sharing method.
Setting Up a Guest WiFi Network
Before creating a WiFi QR code for guests, consider setting up a dedicated guest network on your router. Most modern home and business routers support multiple SSIDs: a primary network for your personal or work devices and a guest network for visitors. Guest networks are isolated — connected devices can access the internet but cannot see or communicate with devices on the primary network. This means guests cannot accidentally or intentionally access your NAS, printers, smart home devices, or computers. The guest network password can be shared freely and changed regularly without affecting your primary network credentials. Creating a guest QR code pointing to this isolated guest network is the optimal combination of convenience and security.
Frequently Asked Questions
For a home or office guest network, a WiFi QR code on display is generally safe — guests who are physically present in your space are the intended users. For maximum security, use a dedicated guest WiFi network that is isolated from your main network, so connected guests cannot access your internal devices or sensitive data. Many routers support guest networks natively. Change your WiFi password periodically and reprint the QR code when you do.
iOS 11+ (iPhone 5s and later) can scan WiFi QR codes directly with the native Camera app — a prompt appears to join the network. Android 10+ can also join networks from QR codes through the device's WiFi settings. Older Android versions may need a third-party QR code scanner app. When you display a WiFi QR code, it is helpful to also show the network name and password as text for users with older devices.
No. Our WiFi QR code generator runs entirely in your browser. The password you enter is used to generate the QR code client-side and is never transmitted to any server or stored anywhere. You can verify this by checking your browser's network requests in Developer Tools — no API calls are made.
